The G.H. Dawe Centre in Red Deer is scheduled to undergo extensive renovations. The 30-year old structure will be getting a face-lift on the exterior to make it more modern looking. On the inside, a key part of th
e proposed renovations is a family aquatics area, with two waterslides and a spray park to be added to the existing pool. Other upgrades would include a sauna, steam room, family change rooms and exercise area.
Major renovations are planned for all other parts of the facility as well. The Red Deer Public Library branch will gain about 50% more space. One gymnasium in the G.H. Dawe Community School will be converted for public use, then a new gym and classrooms will be developed for the school.
Overall, the additions will increase the size of the centre by more than 33,000 square feet. The process is expected to take about 2 years to complete. Construction should begin by late April or early May.

Wow, this sounds like it will be really nice and an indoor water “park” to boot. Is everyone there really excited about the upgrades?

Indoor aquatics are great especially when you get a lot of snow and have long winters. Are winters are long and Lake Mochigan takes forever to warm up. The Centre will probably get tons of use.
