The Toad ‘n’ Turtle Pubhouse & Grill | Red Deer Restaurant
The Toad ‘N’ Turtle is located in Gaetz Crossing, on the South Edge of Red Deer. This is pretty easy to find, right off the QE 2 Highway and North of Gasoline Alley. There is plenty of parking and a lot of big box stores nearby to get some of your shopping done before you stop in at this Red Deer Restaurant. Just remember, this is a pubhouse and grill, which means no minors. If you are out shopping with the children you’ll have to head to another establishment.
The building itself is very striking, with a castle motif and good outside lighting. The atmosphere inside is good, with sports pub signs and decor. There is a lounge side and a dining side to the bottom floor. We seated ourselves in a comfy booth on the lounge side, with room enough for six. The place was pretty busy. A Waitress brought us menus and took drink orders right away, and I was happy to find out that the Toad ‘n’ Turtle has over 20 different varieties of draft on tap. The drinks were on the table pretty fast too.
The menu was pretty extensive, with more items than I was expecting. One appetizer that caught my eye was the Toad Stools. According to the menu, these were mushroom caps stuffed with crab, roasted red pepper, and artichoke heart then topped with melted swiss cheese and potato rosemary bread on the side. For main courses they have a variety of salads, burgers and other regular pub fare. It all sounded good, like the Beer Battered Fish and Chips. Dessert included Apple Brown Betty and cheesecake.
I was interested in the Angry Chicken Pizza, and the Angry Chicken Wrap. Both of these sounded spicy enough for me. I ordered the wrap. We talked and enjoyed our beer. Sports were playing on sets around the room, and the patrons all looked like they were having a good time. Food arrived at our table promptly, and we were asked if we wanted refills on drinks.
That was one angry chicken, with hot red peppers and sauce as well as sliced chicken, lettuce and tomatoes. I enjoyed the wrap, and had some more beer to put out the angry fire. The food all around the table was very good. I can definitely recommend the Toad and Turtle as one Red Deer Restaurant worth visiting.

Toad Stools…sounds very appetizing
. All this talk of food is making me hungry. If I’m ever in town, I’ll be sure to stop by and get the Beer Battered Fish & Chips…beer makes everything taste good

We’ve eaten at the Toad and Turtle several times, including breakfast on a Saturday morning. We have never been disappointed in the food or the service, although the outside patio is a little on the crowded side, with not a great deal of room to squeeze between chairs. However, that’s a minor detail — it’s the food that’s important, and that was very good!
