Construction on the new multi-screen theatre in Gasoline Alley, south of Red Deer, is almost finished. It is
expected to open in March, although no exact date has been announced yet. Many Red Deer and Central Alberta residents have been waiting anxiously for this new movie theatre to open.
Originally the theatre was being built by Landmark Cinemas,
however, it is now going to be operated by Cineplex Entertainment instead under it’s Galaxy Cinemas brand. The theatre will have 10 curved screens, stadium seating for 2,000, a games area and automated ticket machines. In addition to the 35-mm projectors, the theatre rooms will also have digital projectors that will be used for live screenings of NHL Hockey games, concerts and performances of the New York Metropolitan Opera. All in all, the opening of this theatre will be a big event for Red Deer. There are plans for a job fair in order to fill the expected 40-50 staff that will be needed to run the facility.
