The 2008 Central Alberta Trades Expo will be held at the Westerner Park, Red Deer on April 12 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission is free. Students will get the opportunity to experience and explore their employment options for the future. Up to 60 displays will be showing registered trades and designated occupations in Alberta. Experienced tradespeople are going to be in attendance to answer questions. Some skills will be demonstrated and students will be given the chance to try different skills.
The Conference Board of Canada has estimated that there will be a one million trades worker and related occupations shortage within the next 20 years. This shows that the demand for tradespeople will be ongoing. As well as excellent pay and large numbers of available positions, the trades give other career avenues. Workers can gain the skills and knowledge to branch off into other areas, such as contractor, entrepreneur, manager, sales positions, instructor and inspector.
If you are interested in entering an apprenticeship, the Central Alberta Trades Expo is a great primer on what would be required.
