Spectators get in for free, so if this is something that interests you or your children, make sure to get over there and enjoy the event. Over 100 Alberta drivers will participate in the championship, and the event is open to any commercial driver who has been collision free for the last year.

Categories which drivers may enter include step van, straight truck, single-single, single tandem, tandem-tandem and B-train. A driver can only participate in one category. Companies may enter more than one driver, in different events or as a team.

Each category will have a written portion, a vehicle inspection and a road obstacle course. The vehicle inspection will have planted vehicle defects to discover, while the road course will run drivers through everyday road obstacles while cornering, judging distance and maneuvering.

Between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. They will be showing eight different movies, admission for all of which will be free. As well, a regular fountain drink and regular popcorn will be only $2.00 each. There will be entertainment for everyone including clowns and face painting.

The following movies will be playing: Bee Movie – 9:00 am, Daddy Day Camp – 9:20 am, The Golden Compass – 9:30 am, Shrek the Third – 9:45 am, The Simpsons Movie – 10:00 am, The Bourne Ultimatum – 10:15 am, The Bucket List – 10:20 am, Rush Hour 3 – 10:30 am.

All proceeds from the event will go to Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation of Canada.

Admission is free. Students will get the opportunity to experience and explore their employment options for the future. Up to 60 displays will be showing registered trades and designated occupations in Alberta. Experienced tradespeople are going to be in attendance to answer questions. Some skills will be demonstrated and students will be given the chance to try different skills.
The Conference Board of Canada has estimated that there will be a one million trades worker and related occupations shortage within the next 20 years. This shows that the demand for tradespeople will be ongoing. As well as excellent pay and large numbers of available positions, the trades give other career avenues. Workers can gain the skills and knowledge to branch off into other areas, such as contractor, entrepreneur, manager, sales positions, instructor and inspector.
If you are interested in entering an apprenticeship, the Central Alberta Trades Expo is a great primer on what would be required.
